The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) is a non-profit 501(C)3 tax exempt organization founded in 1990. The MREA’s mission is to promote renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable living through education and demonstration.

Keeping in line with the MREA’s mission to promote renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable living through education and demonstration, the MREA Certified Site Assessor Program trains and certifies individuals to provide site-specific renewable energy assessment and consumer education. The MREA trains and certifies renewable energy site assessors in the following technologies: Small Wind, Residential PV, Non Residential PV Residential Solar Hot Water and Non Residential Solar Hot Water.

The MREA Site Assessor Program began in 2001 and has flourished in Wisconsin thanks to site assessment incentives offered through the Focus on Energy Renewable Energy Program. The MREA has experienced an increased interest and demand for the certification as an entry level credential into a renewable energy career from around the country. In 2008, Wisconsin's Renewable Energy Site Assessment Program was awarded an Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) Innovation Award. In 2009, the MREA launched an application process in order to recognize other training programs that meet the training component of the MREA certification requirements.

MREA members have the right and privilege to vote for the Board of Directors. Each membership (either individual or family) receives one ballot. Elections are held each February. The next election is scheduled for February, 2012. Downloadable ballots will be available at this site 30 days prior to the election. Board members are elected to two year staggered terms.

Individuals interested in running for the Board of Directors must be MREA members in good standing, and have attended at least one Board meeting.
